Miss Pennsylvania's recent appearance
Juliann made an appearance on Sunday, July 24 at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix car show that took place at Schenley Park in Oakland. This race, considered to be one of the most challenging races, worldwide, took important figures such as Juliann, on some of the race cars to enjoy the experience.
Pictured above is not Juliann, however, she was on one of the race cars that was speeding around Schenley on Sunday.
She was also a part of the parade and opening ceremony that took place before the race.
Important figures such as Luke Ravenstahl have spoken in the past at the event. To his right is the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix announcer, Ted Sohier.
They began their parade loop at the Westinghouse fountain on Schenley Drive and took a full loop around the race track. Sohier announces each car and driver as it passes the finish line on Bartlett Street. The race began at noon on Sunday.

Adventures with Miss Pennsylvania
Yesterday afternoon Juliann and I traveled to Catoris Candies in New Kensington. Yes, this is what Miss Pennsylvania does on her days off!
Among her many days of dress hunting, I say its okay to indulge in some delicious treats--she deserves it, she's gonna be Miss America!
We each got to fill up an entire bag of favorite candies from dark, to milk and white chocolates. All of these filled with caramel, coconut, pecans, walnuts, you name it, we have it.
We both now have enough candy to fill easter baskets for families of five.
We're hoping to make another visit to Catoris in the near future to see how the candy is made.
Anyway, stay tuned for more adventures with Miss Pennsylvania!

Miss Pennsylvania's Platform
Juliann's platform is Mental Health Awareness.
This platform helped her win Miss Jewel of the West, Miss Pennsylvania, and now, hopefully Miss America.
Mental Health Awareness provides comfort and help for those who are undergoing mental health issues, and helps those realize that it is okay to embrace their illness with the support from others!
There are many speakers, like Juliann who promote mental health awareness--making others aware of the frightening situations that some people are faced with every day.
Juliann will continue to promote her platform throughout her year as Miss Pennsylvania and at the Miss America pageant. Throughout her blog (link is on the way) and her appearances within this year, you will be able to full understand what Miss Pennsylvania's platform is all about!
Stay tuned!

Miss Pennsylvania's Talent
SLIDE SHOW FROM THE PAGEANT!
For Juliann's talent at the Miss Pennsylvania pageant she did a Jazz routine. As contestant number one, Juliann performed her dance first out of 16 that evening.
Due to technical difficulties, Juliann's song started late on her first go-around for her dance.
She was able to re-do her dance routine, perfectly for the second time --she stuck in the judges mind as the first and last contestant to complete her talent.
Although Juliann did not win first for talent, she won the whole pageant!
That's all for now. Try the new Starbucks Mocha Coconut Frappachino! Miss Pennsylvania and I recommend it!

Miss Pennsylvania ventures out of Pittsburgh
My good friend Julsy (Miss Pennsylvania) invited me for an out-of-state appearance this past weekend.
The emcee from the Miss Pennsylvania pageant, Chris Saltalamacchio, invited Juliann to judge the 4th annual Mr. DE pageant in Middletown, Delaware.
Saltalamacchio was crowned Mr. Delaware in 2008 and has known Juliann throughout the process of Miss Pennsylvania.
We ventured to Middletown at about 11:30 AM after a quick Starbucks trip (of course) and then we were on our way.
Although our only music was a Miranda Lambert CD on repeat for the entire ride, it was still super fun--Juliann and I had quite a lot to catch up on.
We were cruising right along until we hit the veryyy slow back road of 272 South, right smack in the middle of the Amish town of Lancaster, PA. Juliann and I were mesmerized at first by all of the farm views, yet after about an hour we were convinced that we had seen enough silos for one day.
As we approached Middletown, we stopped for a quick bite to eat.
We arrived at the theater at about 5:30. The pageant was at 8 PM, so we had plenty of time to spare.
Middletown was adorable with its crowded seafood restaurant on the corner (that Juliann and I were dyinggg to go to) and the live music playing outside of the theater.
Julsy and I got ready with the former Miss Pennsylvania, Courtney Thomas, the recently crowned Miss Delaware and Mrs. Harrington United States. It's a shame I didn't have cuter heels.
I was introduced to many other important people along the way that I was very excited to meet!
The event began with hilarious introductions and side comments from Saltalamacchio and his side-kick Kayla.
The opening number featured all seven contestants and the former Mr. DE's from all three previous years and was extremely entertaining!
As the night continued on, all 11 judges were introduced, Saltalamacchio belted out Michael Buble wonderfully, and the contestants intrigued the crowd with their swim wear (accompanied by the 2010 summer hit, "California Girls").
The night wrapped up as Mr. DE of 2010, Shannon, rallied off an incredible dance routine before giving up his crown to the new Mr. DE 2011, Kevin.
I apologize for lack of last names, I seemed to have misplaced my program somewhere in the long car ride!
It was about 11 PM at this point, and Juliann and I still had to venture back to my hometown in New Jersey to rest our eyes for the night. Traveling 4 states in 24 hours is exhausting, that's for sure! WaWa was just what we needed for the ride home.
We made it to NJ safely and after I gave Juliann a tour of my hometown, we headed back to Pittsburgh after a successful trip. Well, kind of!
Two rest stops later, Juliann and I stopped for a quick coffee. When we tried to turn the car back on, all we heard was, "click! click! click!" We knew this would be bad. After trying to pour coca-cola on the corroded battery, we decided Triple A would be our best bet.
Before we officially asked the PA turnpike patrol to come rescue us from the Sideling plaza, a nice, older gentleman with a VERY LARGE truck gave us a jump.
Yay, we were back on the road.
As Juliann and I brainstormed ideas for her platform and Miss American journey allll the way back to Pittsburgh, we did indeed make it back safely.
Juliann and I declared my roles as the following:
-Traveling Companion
-Photographer
-Personal Assistant
-Journalist
-Auto Mechanic
-Coffee Gopher
There may be a few more that we are missing!
All jokes aside, this was an exciting trip! Stay tuned for more touring updates with Miss Pennsylvania!
Juliann Sheldon is crowned!
The first month as Miss Pennsylvania is just one day away for Juliann Sheldon.
Sheldon, 21, of Plum-boro (Pittsburgh) was crowned on the night of June 18 after winning the preliminary swimsuit award just three days earlier.
Sheldon, a good friend and former roommate of mine from Point Park University has been working non-stop ever since.
Her journey to the Miss America pageant (not to be confused with Miss USA) in January of 2012 in Las Vegas is fully underway.
Since her crowning, Sheldon has made appearances at numerous events.
Some of these appearances include but were not limited to, the annual Fourth of July parade in Philadelphia, the Springdale (Cheswick) parade (Springdale was the site of the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant), and The Mr. DE pageant in Middletown, DE.
Sheldon is still able to work as an intern for Team Smiley for Eat n' Park, and although she will be taking some time off from school to prepare for her exciting Miss America debut in January, she earned a $7,000 scholarship that she plans on using to continue her education in the future.
This is the launch post so stay tuned for more updates as I tour with Miss Pennsylvania!
More surprises to come!
